With this short video, IMDb tries to answer: Where the hell was Batman?
Tale
After the events of “Batman” (2022), Oz Cobb, aka The Penguin, is trying to take over the reins of Gotham’s underworld. Aside from a bat signal in the final shot of the season finale, we never got a cameo from Robert Pattinson in The Penguin. Colin Farrell fought hard for his version of the Penguin smoking a cigarette in Batman (2022), but to no avail. In his own series, however, the character is depicted as a casual cigarette user who likes cigars.
Perfectly in keeping with the mood
The DC Studios logo is located in a rainy Gotham alley. The umbrella falls and the logo changes to the Warner Bros. logo. Appearing on Graham Norton and guests: Lady Gaga/Demi Moore/Colin Farrell/Richard Ayoade/Jack Savoretti (2024).
Where to start with Farrell
Dirty, grimy and dark, but Farrell manages to capture the charm that Tony Soprano Gandolfini managed. There are similarities to The Sopranos, especially in tone. There’s a lot of darkness in this first episode, but there are still comedic moments that fit the tone without undermining it. Amazing is the right word.
And Farrell as an actor is completely immersed in this role
I love seeing talented star actors fully commit to roles like this, and the makeup/CG or whatever they did to physically transform him into the Penguin not only passes the eye test, but also looks incredibly realistic. There’s always a risk that if the makeup isn’t good enough or a little off, it can be completely distracting. In the case of the Penguin, it adds to his game and the overall quality of the show because it’s such a damn good job. I might be a little biased because he was one of my favorite actors before this show, but I think this gives him the credit he deserves.
It did not disappoint, in fact it amazed me
I never tune into new series all at once because I like to watch all the episodes at once, but I wanted to see how it actually turned out. Kudos and thanks to everyone involved in this project.
